The Opera Gala Image by Owen Davies.jpg

Curated and Produced by Jenna Robertson

Presented by the Albany Entertainment Centre

Saturday 30th March 2019

Albany Entertainment Centre,

Albany, Western Australia

This Albany Arts Festival highlight saw internationally-acclaimed baritone José Carbó and Scottish-Australian soprano Jenna Robertson perform alongside John Martin, one of Australia’s most loved pianists and special guests; the Albany Choral Society conducted by Neville Talbot.

With a program including operatic pieces by Puccini, Rossini, Donizetti, Bizet, Massenet and Gershwin through to Australian composers, including world-premieres from Albany composer Sebastian Harris, this was an unforgettable experience for Great Southern music lovers.

Albany-based composer Sebastian Harris is establishing himself as one of the most exciting young composers in Australia, with a unique, sensitive clarity of soundscape that speaks directly to the heart.  Sebastian was commissioned to write a piece for both José and Jenna, and this concert saw not only the world premiere of these works, but the first of his vocal pieces to be performed, inspired by Sebastian’s own incredible story.

Alongside these artists, special guests appearances from the voices of the Albany Choral Society, conducted by Albany’s own Neville Talbot, who joined José, Jenna and John for selections throughout the evening.
